Giving at Essential Rock

Giving is an important part of our relationship with God. He gave first and He gave the best, now He gives us the challenge to respond to His generosity.

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

1 John 3:16-18

Some practical tips...

  • Pray about it. If you are married, pray about it together. It is important that you and your spouse agree on what to give.
  • A suggestion: although the amount of your gift is ultimately between you and the Lord, many of us at Essential Rock have a guideline of giving 10% of our gross income to the church, plus gifts in various amounts to global workers and other ministries.
  • Start somewhere. If you’re not in the habit of giving regularly, it will be helpful to just start with any amount-- this will help you develop the discipline.
  • Determine how you will give. Some people choose to put their gift in the offering plate each Sunday as an act of worship. Others periodically bring their gift by the church office. Some give online because of the conveniences. Still others set up and automatic draft for convenience and consistency.
